How to choose a mirror for a gym or commercial premises

If you’re building a home gym, or you’re creating a commercial gym, chances are you’ve been thinking about installing mirrors

Not that you’ll be doing it for reasons of vanity, of course – it’s just that being able to watch yourself as you work out is a great way of monitoring your technique and performance. That in turn helps you to enjoy a more effective workout and it can even help prevent injuries.

But is there a particular type of mirror you should be getting for your home gym, or will a standard home mirror do the job just as well? The Lee Glass & Glazing team is here to answer all your questions!

Are gym mirrors different from home mirrors?

The simple answer to this is that in most respects, gym mirrors are no different to standard home mirrors, in that they use exactly the same type of glass.

Having said that, most gym mirrors – whether in a home or commercial gym – do tend to be considerably bigger, and that can sometimes even mean them taking up a whole wall. That helps amplify any natural light to create a room that feels both bigger and brighter, something you’ll really appreciate as you do your workout.

Here at Lee Glass & Glazing, we can supply huge mirrors suitable for all types of commercial premises, including gyms. We can even shape them if you’re after a particular look, as well as create cutouts for electric sockets.

And because we use the same type of glass for residential and commercial properties, your mirror will be of the same exceptional quality, no matter where it is placed!

Do gym or commercial mirrors need to be toughened?

Again, with the glass being the same, there won’t be any difference in the toughness of the glass itself. However, we would recommend that you have a safety backing fixed to your gym mirror – this would mean that, should the worst happen and the mirror glass does get broken, then it would be held together, stopping dangerous shards from breaking off and presenting a serious hazard.

The other safety aspect that needs to be considered is how your mirror is attached to the wall. We can drill holes in the glass so that your mirror can be securely screwed to the wall or, if you prefer any fixings to remain hidden for a cleaner look, it can be fitted with mirror adhesive.

Here at Lee Glass & Glazing, we have over 50 years of experience creating and fitting bespoke mirrors for commercial and residential customers right across Nottingham.
